Here we'll tell you about some of our favorite workouts. We'll focus on workouts that kids & parents can do together, but we'll also include workouts just for the grown-ups. After all, if we want the kiddos running we have to set a good example right?

Our First Run
Here's a good way to take your child on his/her first run.  It's just enough running to guarantee success (no tears allowed!) and let you get a good idea of their comfortable pace.

Begin with a 5 min. warm-up walk
Alternate 60 seconds of jogging & 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 mins. (8 run/walks)
Walk back home to cool down.

We like to set out away from home & turn around after half of our run/walks are finished.  I set the interval timer on my watch & Katie wears it.

Sprint 8s for Moms
1. Warm up for 5-10 mins.
2. Sprint 30 secs. Recover 2 mins. 
(do this for 8 repeats)
3. Cool down.  
If you're like me, this means "go lie down in the backseat of your car until you stop feeling like you might throw up."

Sprint 8s for Kids

1. 5-10 min. warmup- Travel around the track any way you want. Hop, skip, jump or do cartwheels down the 50-yard line.
2. Run fast for 30 seconds! Move around the track for 2 mins. The only rules are that you must move & you must be having fun. Other than that anything goes.
(do this for 8 repeats while observing that Mom looks pretty sweaty and awful)
3. Ask Mom to take you for ice cream while her defenses are down.

Couch 2 5K
Here is where you will find the popular Couch 2 5K program.  I used it when I first started running and Katie used it to complete her first 5K without any walking or (best of all) whining.
