Skiing and Food and Hot Chocolate Pictures!

Hello everyone!  It's a quiet Sunday morning and as I write to you I'm looking out my back window at LOTS of snow.  It's not a shocking amount, just the norm around here.

Several years ago I decided that if we were going to live in this snowy, cold area of the country we needed to find a way to enjoy it.  After several web searches I found the Wilderness Lodge and Katie and Mandy became a part of the Wilderness Wildcats ski team in it's very first season.

Here we are, years later and the Lodge is truly the highlight of our January and February.  We really look forward to playing in the snow, eating, and chatting with friends every Saturday afternoon.

Ken got me new snowshoes for Christmas and I couldn't wait to try them out!

I spent some time on the trails and then I got brave and went onto a trail that hadn't been officially opened for the day.  It was marked, but not cleared in any way.

Let's just take a moment here to acknowledge that no one has ever called me "adventurous". Ever.  But there's something about the beautiful trees with the snow hanging off of them and my big snowshoes that make me feel like I can just go!

Anyway, it got a little nerve-wracking for a minute when I couldn't see any signs anymore, but I kept going and eventually made my way back to the main trail.  It was a lot of fun and a great workout.  I don't mind telling you that my glutes keep reminding me of my big adventure every time I walk up the stairs!

Once I was cold and a little bit tired I headed back to the main Lodge and found my favorite guy.

We ordered some food- the Lodge has the best chili- and waited for the girls to appear.

Mandy ordered hot chocolate and it arrived in a mug with Bach on the side.
Brilliant!  How did they know that we were music-loving people?

I wanted to take a cute picture of Mandy drinking her hot chocolate,
but it was really hot so I caught this moment...

She told me not to post it, but I think it's super cute.  Don't tell her, okay?

This is the picture she posed for.  It has been approved for your viewing.

I think she's super cute no matter what.

Katie had a hard workout as she is learning to skate ski.  The first time out on the trails is always tiring.  She said that she was fantasizing about the chocolate cake the whole time.

We are already looking forward to next week in the snow!

What's your favorite winter activity?
Is there anything that you look forward to in January?
