Fitness Year in Review- 2012

The end of the year always seems to be a good time to look back and see what we accomplished & decide what we're looking forward to next year.

2012 was a year of fun fitness for my family.

January

In January I made 2 resolutions.  One of them was to run or walk a mile every day in 2012.  This turned out to be a pretty stupid resolution for me.  Once I got into half marathon training my joints desperately needed rest days.  They are so important for me.  Lesson learned.

We also got all excited for Cross-Country skiing to start, but ended up spending more time on the roller-blades thanks to a ridiculously mild winter.  (We need some snow this year!)

February

February brought us enough snow to get the skis out and properly tire out the children on a fairly regular basis. Yes!

March

In March the warm-ish weather returned so Katie & I headed out to run our local St. Patrick's Day 5K in our fancy socks.

April

April was a pretty fit month around here.

Ken & the girls participated in the Quad Swim race.

I packed up the girls, Grandma Glo & our friend Olivia for the Poker Run 5K.

I also decided to start Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer.

May

In May Mandy finally learned to ride her bike...

... and she was wearing the boo-boos to prove it.

I continued my attempt at the Live Fit Trainer and made silly videos for you.

And we got my sis-in-law/BRF out for the Run For Shelter 5K.  
It was her first race after giving birth to my beautiful niece.

We even dragged my nephew Brian along for this one.

June

June brought the beginning of swim team for Katie, Mandy and Brian.  They are in the pool for practices five days  per week plus swim meets and they love every minute of it.

Ken also swam in June.  He did the annual swim across Presque Isle Bay.  It's a one mile open water swim to celebrate the fact that our bay is now swimmable.  It used to be really polluted... you wouldn't have wanted to swim there... you could have ended up with 2-headed kids.

This picture kills me.  I'm so glad I can show it to you again.

July

In July I quit Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer.  You can read all my reasons for quitting in this post.  As I write this, I'm shocked (and a little proud) to find out that I kept at it for as long as I did.

I also ran the Presque Isle Half Marathon, got a PR & was soaked to the bone. 
I didn't dry out for a week.

Ken participated in the Quad Bike race...

...and there was more swimming to do.

August

In August I headed to the zoo for a little run with Katie & Mandy.  
Those girls ran hard and collected all the free swag they could find.

And of course we were not done swimming yet.


We ended our summer by running the Color Me Rad 5K.  
I've said it before & I'll say it again... Best. 5K. Ever.

September
Ken & I did the Quad Run together in September.  We managed to run 5 whole miles together & not kill each other.  That's a win in my book!

September also found me running the half marathon distance at the Erie Marathon.
That race was not a PR, but was easily the most fun I've ever had running a half marathon.

My local runners club does not slack on the medals- it's beautiful.

October

This is the month for my favorite 5K!  The Her Times 5K!  This year we recruited many friends to run with us and had a ball.  Ken was even a road marshall so everyone was involved.


I have loads more pictures in this post, but we'll move on.

Oh, except to say that I got a PR.

November

November bring the Turkey Trot and the death of my treadmill.

The Turkey Trot was very fun and very crowded.  
Katie & Kristina got to go home with 5K PRs...

...and Katie got  her picture taken with Spiderman.


December

No official events in December, but I signed up for the Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge.

I also became a little obsessed with my Pro Compression socks.

What will 2013 bring?  I can't wait to find out!

I'm not making a single resolution this year, but I am setting a few goals.  
I'll tell you all about them in a separate post.
