(Be sure to read all the way to the bottom for a chance to win
one of 2 great prizes!)

This post includes an excerpt from Kristen's new book "The Happy Hour Effect". I love the ideas for getting organize FAST, especially as we enter this holiday season of craziness!  Enjoy!

How Can We Get Organized Fast?
We get so used to rushing and speeding from one to-do to the next, we often don’t take a step back to really analyze what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, and for whom we are doing it. With just a few minutes of thinking and some smart changes, we can shift our lives so we are more productive and so we have more time to do things we love instead of the daily grind and routine that causes us stress.

The first step is to really take a good and honest look at your to-do list. If you did the Life Mapping exercise at the beginning of the book, you should have a good grasp of everything you do on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. If you didn’t do the Life Mapping exercise, take some time now to write down every big and small task you do every day (week/month), including committees, carpools, errands, hobbies, classes, work tasks, etc. Now, as you look at this list, it’s time to be honest and real about each item. For everything on the list, ask yourself these questions (some of them may seem silly, but really think about them):
  • Why am I doing this task? Is it necessary to the survival, happiness,
or health of me or my loved ones?
  • What does this task entail? Are there ways I can make it easier?
  • How much time does this task take? Could I find a way to make it faster?
  • Who am I doing this task for? Can I enlist help or pass the task to someone else?
  • Does this task make me happy or make me feel fulfilled?

These questions will start to guide you to a place where you better prioritize your lists, streamline your tasks, and even eliminate unnecessary stuff that just sucks your time and energy.
