I've recommended the book Run Like a Mother more times than I can count.
I am a huge fan of Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea. Their website Another Mother Runner and their facebook page have become entertaining and educational hubs for the ever-growing tribe of BAMRs. (Bad Ass Mother Runners)
When their second book Train Like a Mother was released earlier this year,
Sarah Bowen Shea was even kind enough to do a little Q&A with me!
So, when the original BAMRs posted ten questions for the rest of the tribe to answer,
I was happy to oblige.
1. Best Run Ever
It's hard to choose. But, if I'm pressed I'll say it was the 2011 Her Times 5K where Katie ran the whole race for the first time. Her smile at the finish was more exciting than a PR.
2. Three word that describe my running
Enjoyable Slow Therapy
3. My go-to running outfit
Capris or a skort, tank top & hat. (always a hat)
4. Quirky habit while running
I plan ahead to pass clean restrooms. I have an irrational fear of being caught without a restroom nearby when I need it. I loop past my own house, my brother's house and Grandma Glo's house on long runs- just in case.
5. Morning, midday, evening
Morning. The other times only happen on rare occasions.
If I run in the morning, the whole day gets better from there.
6. I won't run outside when it's
Icy. Here in the northeast the weather can get REALLY bad. Many of my runner friends pride themselves on running in any weather. I already have a difficult time staying on my feet when the weather is good. Once the ice covers my driveway, I make friends with my treadmill.
7. Worst injury- and how I got over it
I hesitate to say this... I've never had a major running injury.
My aches & pains are kept under control with ibuprofen,
BioFreeze and regular visits to my chiropractor.
8. I felt most like a badass mother runner when
I finished my first half marathon. The time was awful compared to the ones I've done since then. But, up until that very moment I wasn't actually certain that I'd be able to finish the whole thing.
9. Next race is
The 2012 Her Times 5K on October 6th! Care to join me?
10. Potential running goal for 2013
A mud run of some sort. I got sidetracked from that goal in 2012, but I've got time.
