I pride myself on being an organized person. I meet deadlines. I'm on time for appointments.
I carry a binder that holds my daily (extensive) to-do lists.
And if I only had myself to take care of, all of this would be simple.
But let's look at this past week.
Katie had a Dr. Appt.
Mandy has a birthday coming up.
The girls had a playdate.
Ken & I are painting the downstairs.
All four of us are preparing to go back to school.
(haircuts, dentist appointments, backpack shopping...ugh)
This list could go on and on, but I'll spare you the gory details.
So, when I got the opportunity to use AboutOne, an online family organizer, I thought it certainly couldn't hurt. Any tool that helps me keep track of these people is a tool I'm willing to look into.
I've tried just not allowing them to have social lives but that doesn't fly.
Before I get to telling you what I think of About One,
check out this cute little video that explains what it is.
(I promise, it's entertaining. If it wasn't, I wouldn't ask you to watch it)
AboutOne was founded by Joanne Lang, mom of four boys. Having spent some time using AboutOne, I can say that I don't think anyone but a mom could have conceived this idea. It's quite literally, a space for all the information that moms are constantly trying to keep track of.
For instance, I mentioned earlier that Katie had an appointment with our doctor this week.
(She's fine. Just a little physical for school.) AboutOne has a place for me to record her appointment and any memorable things that may have happened. New prescriptions, immunizations, or even follow-up appointments can be logged here.
Now imagine that I end up having to take Katie to an ER next weekend when we're in Pittsburgh for the ColorMeRad 5K. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to access all of her medical information through the AboutOne app on my phone? (there's an app for Android & Windows. iPhone app coming soon)
I need to digress here for a minute and tell you that I almost didn't write that last paragraph.
I hate even imagining that something awful could happen! I feel like it's asking for trouble.
And who wants to wish trouble for this girl?
Ok, it was just hypothetical. Moving on!
I also started following AboutOne on facebook. This company is all about getting us organized in all areas of our home and life. Their facebook status usually includes an organizational tip or a link to a blog post that will help me get organized. Recently, I read one that told me I should only be using see-through containers to store my Christmas stuff. And apparently I need to get a label-maker.
I really like this family organizer and I look forward to features that are coming soon.
I can't wait for the calendar feature to go live. I think the calendar (along with the other features) will really come in handy this fall when school starts. For the first time Katie & Mandy will be at different schools- I'm sure that will mean more papers coming home for me to keep track of.
I also hope they consider including a tool for meal planning.
I think I would enjoy doing that online where I could add links to recipes on my favorite blogs.
That way I would be able to find that yummy-looking chicken recipe that I was so excited to try.
So, I recommend that you first "like" their facebook page. I think you'll find that it's a worthwhile addition to your newsfeed. Then head over and check out the organizer. It's free to get started.
(You can click on one of the many links I've given you. See how I like to make things easy for you?)
What part of your life and/or home
do you need to get organized?
I was compensated by AboutOne to review their online organizer.
